Basic Philosophy of Tokyo Ryoin
In Japan today, lifestyle-related diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and cerebrovascular disease are increasing, and mental illnesses such as depression, suicide, and social withdrawal are becoming more serious. Meanwhile, low birthrates and the aging population are undermining the stability of the social security systems including medical care, nursing care, and social welfare. In response to these problems, the Japanese government aims to establish a community-based integrated care system.
Existence of mutual trust and reciprocity in society and amongst community members (social capital) are closely related to health and happiness, thus creation of communities with strong healthy bonds is desired. Integrative medicine is gaining attention from around the world because it provides concrete means for dealing with various problems of modern society. It has become a movement which encompasses both medical treatment and a wide range of care including disease prevention, end-of-life care, improvement of lifestyle & quality of life, and support of purpose in life.
With this in mind, Tokyo Ryoin works with the local MOA Healthy Life Network based on the concept “Wellness Center for the mind, body, and heart,” focusing on the body, mind, and spirituality. Together, we will support the creation of healthy people and healthy community, through providing various health methods which guides people to become aware of, enhance, and make use of the natural healing power inherent in humans, so that people can acquire healthy lifestyle habits that are in tune with nature. It is a comprehensive approach to care which ultimately includes the consideration of individual’s way of life and way of thinking.
